The Princess of the Wales was spotted sporting the Lover's Knot Tiara on Tuesday evening as Buckingham Palace hosted a glamorous reception as she and William put on a united front.

On rare occasions she can wear a tiara the Princess appears to have a favourite and it was on display as she and King Charles were dragged into the royal race row. The Prince and Princess also posed for an official photo alongside the King and Queen in what royal experts claim is a show of unity.

It was “business as usual” for The Firm for the Royal Family after the King and the Princess of Wales were identified as central to a bombshell claim Meghan Markle made in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. The two royals were named in a Dutch version of Omid Scobie's book, Endgame, after the Duchess of Sussex told Oprah the royal family had “concerns” over the skin colour of her unborn son with husband Prince Harry.

Mr Scobie denied publishing the claims about Kate and Charles, which he denies, and thousands of copies of the Dutch translation of the book have been pulled from shelves. Buckingham Palace will present all options to King Charles over whether it will take legal action against Mr Scobie or the publishers following reports the Dutch translation of the book may have been from an early draft manuscript after announced it was "considering all options".

Last night, the Royal Family stood together at the glittering Diplomatic Corps reception. The annual gathering, which is one of the most scintillating dates in the royal calendar and only postponed during the coronavirus crisis, welcomes over 500 members of the Diplomatic Corps in the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace.

Princess Kate's diamond and pearl-encrusted showstopper was teamed with a gown from one of her favourite designers Jenny Packham. The headpiece dates back to 1914 and was made by royal jeweller Garrard for Queen Mary of Teck - the late-Queen Elizabeth's grandmother.

Among the many events Kate's been seen wearing the piece were the evening reception for the Jordan royal wedding over the summer, and in November last year for the Palace's first state banquet of King Charles' reign. But as beautiful as it is, it's been said to cause an enormous headache - and not just for those retrieving it from the vault.

The tiara was often worn by Princess Diana due to its density. Coming in at 2.2oz, the piece is said to be uncomfortable ad would often cause the late-Princess headaches.

Fashion coach and celebrity stylist Miranda Holder, who is known on TikTok under the username @themirandaholde said: "Apparently because it was so heavy she used to get terrible headaches from wearing it." The tiara is also said to be very noisy due to the swinging pear-shaped pearls.

It comes after a Dutch version of a new book by royal author Omid Scobie apparently named the two senior royals as the subject of a letter Meghan wrote to the King, following her allegations that the royal family had “concerns” over the skin colour of her unborn son with husband Prince Harry.

The Royal Family put on a united front - a week after the King and Princess of Wales were dragged into the royal race row by the Duchess of Sussex’s biographer. The monarch was joined by the Queen, Prince William and Kate at the dazzling Buckingham Palace reception, which traditionally heralds the start of the festive period for the royals.
