A 22-year-old British tourist was allegedly raped by a barman in Italy.

The horrific attack was said to have taken place in Naples, in a pizzeria where the Brit had been enjoying eating pizza and having a drink during her summer holiday, Il Mattino reported.

She has since appeared in court about the allegations, filed last summer after the alleged attack in July, represented by Lucilla Longone before prosecutor Mariangela Magariello.

After stopping off at a restaurant to enjoy her evening, she was allegedly attacked and "forced" into having sex by the barman.

She claims the waiter, 30, spoke good English to her, and chatted to her along with a barman, but then he pushed her into another room and attacked and raped her.

The barman has denied the allegations and the judge has now initiated an investigation - including examining DNA evidence found on the victim's clothing.

The court hearing is taking place behind closed doors.
